What motivates you? That answer is different for everyone, but this is where you will find the key to controlling someone. My motivator is love.
I feel love when I feed the birds. They don’t do anything for me, but show up and entertain me when I’m in a familiar place with food in hand. However, I also know that they aren’t going to show up and shit on me if I have nothing. There’s a white one in particular that always catches my eye. In fact, it doesn’t matter where I am anymore.. if I see a white bird, my head whips around just for a glimpse. I always wonder if it’s my bird. Obviously, it’s a wild bird, but I like to think of it as mine.
I’ve held onto this verse for a long time. I had to memorize it in the second grade. I don’t believe in the Bible as a literal code to live by, but it does carry some great translatable teachings. This is one of them.
1 Corinthians 13:4-8
4Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 8Love never fails. . .
Have you ever found all of these qualities in one person? The idea of someone holding all of your best interests in their hand is a beautiful thing. That’s love. That’s what I hold on to in order to motivate myself through life. Chirp for me.
